Studied Economics at the Faculty of Political Science of Ankara University and received his bachelor’s degree in 1993. Took his MBA concentration in finance degree from the University of San Francisco, CA, USA in 1995. Completed his short term military service in 1996 and started to work at the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey in 1997. Had 18 years of central banking experience at various departments of the Bank including Markets, Communication and Foreign Relations and Banking and Financial Institutions Departments as well as at the Frankfurt Representative Office of the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey where he served as assistant specialist, specialist, deputy director and senior representative officer. During his term at the Bank, he represented the Bank at the G-20, IMF, BIS, OECD, World Bank and Islamic Development Bank meetings. Worked at The Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) Parliamentary Inquiry Committee on “Foreign Exchange Indexed Loans” in 2012 as a representative of the Bank. Worked as the member of the technical committee for the implementation of intergovernmental program between Turkey and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus between 2013-2015. Similarly, he served as the head of the financial sector evaluation committee during the fourth review of the program. He was both member of the Turkish-Russian Working Group on Banking and Financial Cooperation established under the Turkish-Russian Intergovernmental Joint Economic Commission and the Working Group on Banking and Finance of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation Organisation. In addition, he was member of the working groups set up for Currency Swap Agreements and Trade with Local Currencies with People’s Republic of China and Pakistan. He was appointed as the advisor to the Minister at the Ministry of Labour and Social Security in December 2015 and served until August 2016. Since
2006, he has been also a part-time lecturer at METU Department of Business Administration.
Mr. Kürşad ARAT, is married and father of two children.
